Houston Beagle and Hound Rescue, Inc. (HBHR) is a non-profit 501-(c)-3, all-volunteer organization dedicated to beagle and hound rescue. We are a small group of volunteers who foster dogs in our homes. There is no shelter facility. We provide placement assistance to shelters and individuals who need to find homes for hounds which, for various reasons, have become stray or homeless.

HBHR is incorporated in the state of Texas and our federal EIN number is 75-3113421.

Most of our animals come from high-kill animal control facilities where they were scheduled to be euthanized. Our goal is finding homes for the dogs with families who want to continue our mission of giving the neglected dogs a second chance. We want to place the dogs with adopters who come to us because they are interested in doing their own part in giving the rescued dogs a better life and a second chance.

Our long-term goal is to educate the public regarding the tragic pet over-population problem in the U.S and around the world so that rescue will one day no longer be needed.

Services We Provide:

We rescue Beagles that are due to be put down in shelters in the Houston and surrounding areas, as well as strays or emergency owner release.

When beagle owners decide to surrender their beagle for one reason or another, we provide assistance and advice in hopes of helping to correct any problems and ultimately to enable the owner to keep the dog. We do accept owner-surrender beagles (and occasionally other hounds) into our organization as space permits, as well as “found” dogs which members of the public have rescued from the streets but are unable to keep. All dogs accepted into our program receive the same level of complete veterinary care, fostering, training and placement regardless of how they were obtained. We promote animal rescue and adoption. Beagles adopted through HBHR are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We discourage for-profit breeding or any breeding that does not promote and uphold the best interests of the animals and breed standard.
