IF YOU HAVE FOUND A STRAY BEAGLE OR HOUND
Please put out flyers in the area where you found the dog, without disclosing some specific information that you will require (as proof of ownership) when a potential owner replies to your flyer.
- Take the dog to a veterinarian’s office, shelter, or pet store to have him/her scanned for a microchip
- Call your local Animal Control facility and report the dog found.
- Take a digital photo of the dog.
- Go to 24 pet connect, the official linked animal control listing page, and post the dog’s information and photo. You may also want to search the listed websites of shelters, to see if anyone has reported the dog missing.
- For help with possible intake of the found dog, please submit Intake Request form. Please note intake is subject to review and approval of our Intake Team and dependent on foster home space.
NOTE: Please be aware that Craigslist and other classified sites are known to have people who pose as the dog’s owners in order to obtain a free dog to resell, fight, or use for other unethical purposes. It is better to list the dog on a neighborhood site with a more local following. Please ask any potential owners who contact you to provide identifying info on the dog (via the color of the collar, unusual markings, sex, etc.). Also, if you have had no luck in finding the original owners, the best option is to locate a rescue group that can take in the dog. If you are attempting to find a new home for the dog yourself, people have been known to pose as loving families, but have no interest in giving the dog a good home. Never list a dog as ‘free to good home’; always ask for references and some sort of adoption fee.
